The Rhode Island
Department of Environmental Management (DEM) – in partnership with Rhode Island
Infrastructure Bank – has announced new funding opportunities to support the
cleanup and redevelopment of contaminated properties, known as brownfields, across
the state. In total, over $6 million is
available to fund projects that will support a healthier environment and
economy, create jobs, and promote renewable energy.
The Brownfields
Revolving Loan Fund, which is jointly overseen by the Infrastructure Bank and
DEM, provides financing for the remediation of sites contaminated with
hazardous substances. Conducting environmental cleanups allows these properties
to be redeveloped and returned to productive use. Entities interested in
applying for financing or learning more about the program should contact
Michael Baer at 401-453-4430, ext. 127 or mbaer@riib.org.
In
addition to the Brownfields Revolving Loan Fund, DEM has grant funding
available through the Brownfields Remediation and Economic Development Fund and
the Targeted Brownfields Assessment Program. Funds from these grant programs
may be combined with financing through the Brownfields Revolving Loan Fund to
maximize the financial assistance available.
A single application form,
available at www.dem.ri.gov/brownfields, can be used to apply
for any of the above opportunities. Electronic applications are encouraged;
however, proposals may also be mailed to the DEM Permit Application Center, 235
Promenade Street, Second Floor, Providence, RI 02908.
The Infrastructure
Bank and DEM will hold an informational workshop to review brownfield funding
opportunities on Wednesday, November 1,
2017 at 9:30am at DEM Headquarters, 235 Promenade Street, Room 300,
Providence, RI 02908. The workshop is open to the public.
